Rock Island track project to require busing between LaSalle and 35th Street stations Sept. 20-21

Construction work on the Rock Island Line will require busing between LaSalle and the 35th Street/Lou Jones stations for some trains on Friday night, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21.

Metra and CN forces will be replacing the track diamonds and realigning the Metra tracks at the 16th Street Tower just south of downtown. Track diamonds are the sections of track at the intersection of two rail lines. CN engineering forces will be removing the existing diamonds and installing replacements, then Metra forces will realign the Rock Island tracks and connect them to the new diamonds.

Work is scheduled to begin Friday night, Sept. 20 and continue through Sunday, Sept. 22. During work hours Friday night and Saturday, Rock Island trains will not travel north of 35th Street and Metra passengers will be bused between LaSalle and 35th Street. Work will continue Sunday, Sept. 22, and passenger may experience delays of at least 15 minutes while traveling through the work zone.

Bus transfers between LaSalle St and 35th Street stations are expected for the following trains:  
•    Friday night Sept. 20: inbound trains 512 through 518 and outbound trains 511 through 517
•    Saturday morning Sept 21: inbound trains 202 through 310 and outbound trains 205 through 113
•    *Saturday evening Sept 21: inbound trains 230 through 234 and outbound trains 233 through 237
o    *Saturday evening trains may not require busing if work is completed early, please monitor alerts for project updates.
