Construction begins April 21 at 103rd Street/Washington Heights Station

Metra forces will begin work Friday, April 21 on a major rehab project at the 103rd Street/Washington Heights Station on the Rock Island Line. The station will be open for passenger service throughout the project; however, the depot building will not be accessible to customers during construction.

The project will include a complete rehab of the depot building originally built in 1910. The entire interior will be rehabbed and the lobby area expanded. The building exterior will be repainted, and new soffit and fascia will be installed along the roof line. New LED lighting will be installed inside and outside the depot.

The project will also address ADA accessibility issues with the installation of a new stamped patio area around the depot as well as other improvement to pathways between the depot, the boarding platforms, and the parking area.

The project is part of Metra’s 2023 station beautification program and is scheduled for completion this fall. Metra’s beautification program is an annual effort across our system focusing on repairs, such as painting, gutter replacement, or concrete patching that if not addressed could lead to the deterioration of a station facility. The program also targets more extensive station improvements such as the 103rd Street/Washington Heights project.
