William C. Lyman’s 40-year career in railway transportation began with Santa Fe Railway in 1970 and led to assignments in California, Illinois, Kansas and Texas. He ultimately served as chief transportation officer for Santa Fe Railway and later for Kansas City Southern of Mexico, as well as senior vice president of operations for Kansas City Southern Railway before returning to his railway operations consulting practice, primarily in the U.S. and Mexico.
He is a 36-year resident of Elmhurst. Mr. Lyman earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture (1964) and a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics (1970) and served in the U.S. Navy as a supply corps officer aboard USS Kawishiwi (AO-146) during the Viet Nam conflict. Currently retired except for occasional railway consulting assignments, he participates in several not-for-profit organizations. He is a member of the Western Railway Club and the Lexington Group, a transportation history organization.
