Is Metra’s website the only place to find out about open positions?

No. Metra shares their job postings with outreach partners, which include employment agencies, veteran organizations, schools, etc. Additionally, Metra places advertisements for open positions on various external media sources. However, the Open Positions page on our website is the best source for information on all open positions at Metra.

What if I don’t see a position that interests me?

We encourage you to check the Employment page regularly for new job posting opportunities. Metra posts jobs as they become available.

What is your hiring policy?

Metra is an equal opportunity employer, with a talented and diverse team that contributes to our success. Metra’s policy is to hire qualified candidates who are deemed the most suitable for each job. Prior to employment, selected candidates must complete and pass a series of pre-employment test to include physical exam, drug screen, and background investigation.

Does Metra hire students?

Yes. Metra welcomes students to take advantage of our internship opportunities.

Does Metra offer on-the-job training?

Yes. Metra regularly offers apprenticeship opportunities for Carmen, Electricians, Signalman and Mechanics. These programs take approximately two (2) to three (3) years to complete depending on the craft and include classroom work and on-the-job training leading to a journeyman’s certification.

Do you offer free train tickets to employees?

Yes. Employees are issued a Regional Ride Pass for free transportation on Metra, CTA and Pace

Submitting a Resume

Can I apply for multiple positions?

Yes. For full consideration, you must submit a separate resume and cover letter for each position that interests you.

Can I send my application or resume directly to your office?

No. Metra does not accept paper applications or resumes via fax, U.S. mail or hand delivery. You must visit our careers page and follow the instructions listed for each individual job. Please visit our Careers page for more information.

How can I find out the status of my application?

Regretfully, due to the large volume of candidates, we are unable to personally respond to all applicant inquiries. One of our recruiters will contact you directly if you are one of the selected candidates chosen to come in for an interview.

Do you pay travel expenses to interviews or relocation fees?

Metra does not pay for travel expenses to interviews. Relocation fees can be discussed during the interview process.

Do I need a referral to be considered for employment?

No. Employment opportunities at Metra are open to the public.

At what age does Metra hire employees?

A person must be at least 18 years of age to work at Metra.

Does Metra hire Veterans?

Yes. Metra honors our Veterans, and welcomes them to apply for positions.

What are the educational requirements?

Does Metra sponsor applicants?

No. Metra does not provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status). Qualified candidates must have a legal right to work in the U.S. and must be able to provide acceptable proof of their legal work status.
